Pikeperch

Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) is a very photophobic freshwater fish native to Central Europe.

Pikeperch aquaculture is comparatively insignificant, with a global production of 3,171 tons in 2019. In Germany, pikeperch production reached 55 tons in 2020 (FIZ, 2021). Pikeperch are kept in pond systems, net pens, and recirculating systems. Due to their high market price, pikeperch are predestinated for rearing in recirculation systems and could thus play an important role in aquaculture in the future.
