Carp

In the history of aquaculture, carp are among the oldest species cultivated in freshwater. Carp are an important segment of global aquaculture. The amount of carp (Cyprinus carpio) produced worldwide in 2018 was 4.2 million tons (FAO, 2020). In Germany, carp ranks second in production, just behind rainbow trout. Together, the three main Asian producing countries China, Indonesia and Vietnam account for three quarters of the global carp production (FAO, 2020)

Carp prefer stagnant or slow-moving water, which is why they are usually kept in pond farms.
