Pikeperch
Pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) is a very photophobic freshwater fish native to Central Europe.
Pikeperch aquaculture is comparatively insignificant, with a global production of 4,269 tons in 2024. In Germany, pikeperch production reached 148 tons in 2023 (FIZ, 2024). Pikeperch are kept in pond systems, net pens, and recirculating systems. Due to their high market price, pikeperch are predestinated for rearing in recirculation systems and could thus play an important role in aquaculture in the future.
