Sea bass
The sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is mainly cultivated in the Mediterranean region.
Sea bass are produced in a variety of production systems including coastal lagoons, flow-through systems, and recirculating systems. However, the majority of European production comes from net cage systems.
In 2024, approximately 300,000 metric tons were produced (FAO, 2026). The leading producers include Turkey, Greece, and Spain.
